This initiative addresses a critical regional need to equip high school students—particularly those from underserved backgrounds—with advanced healthcare technology skills to meet the growing workforce demands in Orange County. Based on evidence from the 2021–2024 Strong Workforce Plan and Labor Market Information, the project targets key challenges including a widening skills gap, rising demand for tech-savvy healthcare professionals, and the need for greater equity in career access. In partnership with Capistrano and Laguna Beach USDs, the plan enhances Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways by integrating cutting-edge medical technologies into curricula, providing teacher training, offering hands-on learning experiences, and aligning with industry and postsecondary partners. Through this comprehensive approach, the initiative aims to prepare students for high-wage, high-demand careers while promoting diversity, equity, and economic growth in the region’s healthcare sector.
This work plan focuses on expanding work-based learning opportunities within CTE Healthcare pathways by integrating advanced medical technology into curriculum and instruction, preparing high school students for in-demand healthcare careers. In collaboration with LBUSD, Capistrano USD, South Orange County Community College District, and industry partners, the plan includes teacher training, curriculum development, industry-aligned certifications, and hands-on learning through internships, site visits, and extracurricular programs. Special emphasis is placed on equity and access, ensuring disproportionately impacted students receive academic, career, and socioemotional support to succeed in high-skill, high-wage healthcare fields. Measurable outcomes include increased student enrollment, retention, college transition, credential attainment, and technology proficiency, with sustainability supported by braided funding and strong industry engagement.
